SeaBob은 제트스키와 보디보드(bodyboard; 배에 대고서 파도타기를 하는
판)를 합쳐놓은 형태로 꽉 잡고서 물표면과 물속을 가르며 달리는 기기이다.
스피드 있고, 우아하고, 민첩하게 물속으로 내려가면 된다.
고글을 쓰고, 핸들을 잡고, 시밥의 몸에 꼭 맞는 플라스틱 보드에 몸을 대고, 서서히 가속 센서를 누른다. 전기
임펠러(impeller; 물이나 증기 따위를 받아 그 동력으로 바퀴를 회전하기 위하여 수차(水車), 터빈 따위의 회전축에 날개를 단 것) 제트
모터가 처음엔 서서히 움직이다 곧 전속력으로 속도를 높여 15km/h의 속력으로 달린다.
숨을 깊게 들이쉬고 해저로 향해 추진하면서 물속으로 들어간다. 다리는 물고기의 꼬리처럼
이용하면서 몸을 움직여 체중으로 방향을 튼다. 그리고 움직이면서 바위와 산호, 놀라는 물고기를
피하며 해저의 모래를 따라 나는 기분을 만끽할 수 있다.
핸들을 놓으면 전원이 꺼지면서 바로 멈추기 때문에 기기를 다시 찾아오려고 멀리까지 헤엄쳐 가지 않아도 된다.
재충전할 수 있는 리튬이온 축전지(storage
battery)와 임펠러 제트 추진 시스템으로 구성되어 있고, 기본 모델은 2.4 kW 엔진을, 제트·카야고(Cayago) 모델들은 20km/h
속력을 낼 수 있는 더 큰 3.6kW 엔진을 사용한다.
콘센트에 꽂아 충전하는 데 6-12시간 걸리고, 물속을 한 시간 정도 질주할 수 있다.
조종석에 있는 예쁜 LCD 디스플레이로 엔진 동력, 남아있는 운행시간, 충전 상태, 물 온도, 물 깊이를 다 볼 수
있다.
이 기계는 2.5미터의 깊이 아래로 내려가면 엔진이 정지하도록 공장에서 만들어졌다. 이 안전장치는 최대 40미터 깊이
까지 조정이 가능하다. 따라서 스쿠버 장비로 사용할 수 있다.
